FAQs
How would you define your photography style?
When I say I’m a documentary wedding photographer, what I mean is I strive to capture everything as it happened, with little interference. I am not the photographer who will make you redo something for the camera, attempt a cheesy pose, or fake an interaction. Additionally, my biggest goal is for each of my clients to enjoy their wedding day and be fully present in it, not worried about doing a photoshoot.
I specialize in the candid moments, real interactions between people that cannot be faked. Portraiture is kept to a minimum — I like to bring my couples into “good light” and let them be, only giving slight direction or encouraging natural movement so that their own unique way of interacting with one another is what shines. My work is punctuated by bold colors, tender and otherwise fleeting moments, and a cheeky sense of humor and irony, especially on the dance floor and during cocktail hour.
Do you shoot on film?
Yes, I utilize a variety of cameras on a wedding day, including both digital and film bodies, both 35mm and medium format. There is a richness to film, the way it captures light and color, that I find you cannot replicate in a modern camera.
I do not consider myself a true "hybrid" photographer, in that I do not purposely try to match my digital images to my film scans. I love the difference between the two and using both mediums interchangeably when the moments calls for it. Film has, over time, become more honest and true to me as an artist, and I prioritize it when I can, but I love both film and digital cameras for their individual strengths.
Is film photography an additional cost?
No — for better or for worse, I love film and have worked it into each individual quote so that you don’t have to worry about an added fee. This way, I don’t limit myself to only shooting one or two rolls and instead have the freedom to shoot as much film as the situation calls for.
Do you work with a second shooter?
Yes, for most of my clients’ weddings, I bring an additional photographer to help me capture the day in its entirety. The option to have a second shooter is always provided in your individualized quote, with the ability to add one on later as well. Although I am comfortable shooting alone and often do for more intimate gatherings, I do recommend having a second shooter for any events over 100 guests.
Do you travel?
Absolutely yes! I love traveling for my work and getting to experience weddings in other climates and environments. In California, I frequent San Francisco/the Bay Area, Napa Valley, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Ojai, and San Diego. Among the other beautiful places I’ve worked in the past few years includes Montana, Colorado, Boston, NYC, Rhode Island, Chicago, Cleveland, Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans, Cabo San Lucas, and Cancun, Mexico.
How does your pricing work?
I create custom quotes for each of my couples in order to tailor to their individual needs. In a custom quote, you’ll find multiple package choices that vary in coverage hours, amount of photographers, coverage of additional events like welcome parties, and more. This way, you can prioritize what is most meaningful to you.
Most of my clients invest between $7,000 and $10,000, depending on amount of coverage and travel fees, if applicable. This is an accurate range for a 8-10 hour wedding day and varies based on travel and add-ons. Less than 8 hours is quoted on a case-by-case basis, when appropriate.
For courthouse elopements and intimate gatherings of less than 25 people, an hourly rate is available. Please reach out for more information.
